Sofa cleaning for Godalming homes

Sofas and chairs hide a surprising amount. Even when the fabric looks reasonable from across the room, the arms, seat fronts and headrests slowly darken with skin oils, food, pet hair and everyday dust. In the period homes and contemporary houses you find around Godalming, upholstery is often a big investment, and a tired-looking suite can drag down a room that is otherwise immaculate.

Surrey Hills Cleaning is a carpet and upholstery specialist run by John from Oxshott. Godalming lies a little further out than some of our towns, beyond Guildford, but we cover it, along with Farncombe, Milford, Bramley and the surrounding villages. We clean sofas of every size, armchairs, dining chairs, footstools, ottomans and upholstered headboards, all in your home.

Fabrics we are happy to clean

Upholstery comes in all sorts of materials, and the wrong method can do more harm than good. We take care with delicate fabrics such as velvet, wool, silk and linen, and we also clean leather sofas and chairs. Before starting, we check the fabric and any marks and explain what we plan to do, adjusting the approach so each piece gets a thorough clean while its finish stays protected.

Not sure what your sofa is made from? Let us know when you enquire. A photo of any care label helps, and John can advise from there.

Agitated by hand, rinsed at 120°C

What sets our upholstery cleaning apart is the agitation stage. Rather than spraying a product on and immediately extracting it, we pre-vacuum every surface and crevice, pre-spray with a conditioning solution and spot treat individual marks. Then we work that solution into the weave with an upholstery brush, so it reaches the soil buried inside the fabric.

The rinse is hot water extraction at 120°C with our Power-Flex Storm 800psi machine. It draws out the loosened dirt, allergens and solution in one go, and the heat kills dust mites and bacteria. Every clean includes stain treatment and deodoriser. We use eco-friendly products wherever we can, and our agents are free of toxic and caustic ingredients, so they are safe around children and pets.

  • Four-seater sofa£140
  • Armchair£45

What upholstery cleaning costs in Godalming

Our upholstery prices are clear and fixed:

  • Two-seater sofa: £110
  • Three-seater sofa: £130
  • Four-seater sofa: £140
  • Armchair: £45

A sofa price covers all the cushions, cleaned front and back, along with the whole base. Every job carries a £110 minimum charge to cover bringing and setting up the equipment, so for Godalming customers it makes sense to bundle items. An armchair, a bedroom mattress or the lounge carpet can all be done during the same visit.

Protecting your sofa after the clean

A freshly cleaned sofa is the ideal moment to add protection. We strongly recommend a soil protector such as Scotchgard. It leaves an invisible barrier on the fibres so that spills bead up and can be blotted away, which keeps the fabric looking good for longer and stretches the gap between cleans. Scotchgard for a sofa is roughly £70 to £80, depending on how big it is.

As for drying, extraction removes most of the water during the clean itself, so the fabric is never left soaked. Drying time still varies with the material and how dirty it was, and we use a turbo dryer fan where it helps. Before we leave, we will tell you when the furniture is ready to use.

Why not just use a spray from the shop?

For a fresh spill, a home product can be fine. For older marks, ground-in grime or a dog that has made the sofa its bed, DIY tends to fall short. Some sprays are too strong for certain fabrics and leave fading or rings, and hired machines often put in far more water than they pull out, leaving cushions slow to dry and smelling musty.

A professional clean reaches deeper and leaves less behind: better results on set-in stains, odours treated in the fibres, fewer allergens, gentler handling of velvet, wool, silk and leather, and quicker drying. It is also far cheaper than replacing a good sofa that simply looks tired.
