A careful clean for Richmond's carpets and furniture

Richmond homes vary a great deal, and so do the carpets in them. A Georgian or Victorian house near the centre might have a good wool carpet on the stairs and an antique rug in the sitting room. A riverside flat is more likely to have hard wearing synthetic carpet throughout, and the family houses in East Sheen, Kew and North Sheen tend to have lounges and stairs that see a lot of feet, paws and spills. We clean all of them, for homeowners, tenants, landlords and letting agents.

Before any work starts, we look at the carpet type, how heavily soiled it is and what stains need attention, then choose the method to suit. Surrey Hills Cleaning is Woolsafe approved, with a Woolsafe Registered Inspector, so natural fibres are in trained hands, and we are fully insured.

Why we agitate before we extract

A lot of carpet cleaning amounts to spraying solution onto the pile and sucking it straight back out. It brightens the surface for a week or two, then the carpet looks flat again because the dirt underneath has not moved. We work differently. Each carpet is pre-vacuumed, pre-sprayed with a conditioning solution and spot treated, then the solution is agitated into the fibres with a brush so it reaches the soil bonded to them.

Only then do we rinse, using hot water extraction at 120°C on our Power-Flex Storm 800psi machine. The heat and pressure flush out the loosened dirt and the cleaning solution together, and kill dust mites and bacteria in the pile. The fibres are groomed afterwards for an even finish. Removing the abrasive grit also cuts the wear on the carpet, so it lasts longer. Stain treatment and deodoriser are included as standard, and our products, free from harsh or caustic chemicals, are safe around children and pets.

How long it takes, and how long it takes to dry

A typical three-bedroom home takes around two to four hours to clean, depending on how many rooms are being done and how much attention the stains need. We will give you a good idea of timings when you book.

Carpets are usually dry within a few hours, depending on the thickness of the pile, the weather and how well the room is ventilated. We bring a turbo dryer fan where it will help. Before you put furniture back, make sure the carpet is completely dry. Afterwards, a soil protector or Scotchgard helps the carpet resist new stains and stay cleaner for longer.

Upholstery, mattresses and rugs

We clean sofas, armchairs, dining chairs, upholstered headboards and mattresses, and every piece is inspected first. Durable synthetics clean well with hot water extraction. Velvet, wool, silk and other natural fabrics may need a lower moisture or specialist method, and we adjust accordingly so the finish is protected. We clean leather sofas too.

Pet odours and everyday smells are treated at the source in the fibres rather than masked, with deodoriser as standard. Sofa prices include every cushion front and back, plus the whole base. For rugs, including wool, Persian and other hand knotted pieces, we check the fibre and dye stability before any wet cleaning, and use a low moisture method for delicate rugs. See our upholstery cleaning page for more detail.

End of tenancy and deep cleans

Richmond has a busy lettings market, and we help tenants, landlords and agents get properties ready for handover. The carpets, sofas, mattresses and hard floors are our specialist part of the job, and our team can add a deep clean of the rest of the property: kitchens including the oven, bathrooms and limescale, bedrooms, living areas and hallways, internal cupboards, skirting boards and the hidden corners that get missed. Homeowners book the same kind of deep clean after building work or before guests arrive.

There is no set price for an end of tenancy clean, because every property is different. We visit first, then give you a clear quote.

Why Richmond customers choose us

We are a local, owner run business based in Oxshott, and most of our work comes from repeat customers and recommendations. We are rated 5.0 from 360 Google reviews, and in 2026 we were named Best Carpet and Upholstery in Surrey in the SME News UK Enterprise Awards. We also hold the ThreeBest Rated Business Excellence Award 2026 and Trusted Trader status, and we are Woolsafe approved as a Registered Inspector and Associate Member.

Prices are clear and published: £45 a room, £45 for stairs and landing, and sofas from £110 for a two-seater with every cushion and the base included. There are no hidden charges, and if you are not 100 per cent satisfied with any part of the clean, we come back and re-do it. We guarantee you will love the results.

Before we arrive

It helps if you move smaller items, ornaments and anything valuable or fragile off the floor before we arrive. You do not need to shift beds, wardrobes or heavy sofas: we work around large furniture and use protective pads where they are needed, so nothing marks the damp carpet. If there are particular stains, pet accidents or worn areas, tell us when you book so we can plan for them.

To get a quote, call John on 07584 551 784, send a message on WhatsApp or request a call-back. We will ask a few questions about the property and what needs cleaning, then give you a clear, no-obligation price. We work Monday to Saturday, 8am to 5:30pm, and the diary often fills up ahead.

The difference

What a proper clean does for your home

Fewer allergens

Steam extraction at 120°C kills dust mites and bacteria in carpets, sofas and mattresses.

Longer lasting carpets

Grit at the base of the pile cuts the fibres every time it is walked on. Getting it out slows the wear down.

Better looking rooms

Colour comes back, traffic lanes fade and the pile feels softer underfoot.

Honest advice

We tell you before we start if a mark is unlikely to come out, and re-clean if you are not 100 per cent satisfied.
