Carpet and upholstery cleaning for Dorking and Westcott

Dorking is a market town surrounded by the Surrey Hills, and we clean carpets, sofas, rugs and mattresses right across it, from homes near the town centre out to Westcott, Pixham and the villages along the valley. Surrey Hills Cleaning is run by John from our base in Oxshott, a straightforward drive down through Leatherhead, and we treat every Dorking home with the same care we give our neighbours closer to home.

Whether it is a stained lounge carpet, a tired stair runner or a sofa that has seen a few years of family life, our job is to lift the dirt, grime and bacteria that build up deep in the fibres over time, so you can keep what you have rather than replace it. Every quote is free and comes with no obligation.

Mud, dogs and busy hallways

With so much open countryside on the doorstep, a lot of what we clean in and around Dorking is the stuff that comes in on boots and paws. Fine grit settles at the base of the pile in hallways and on stairs and acts like sandpaper every time someone walks over it, which is why those areas look flat and grey long before the rest of the house.

Vacuuming deals with the surface, but it cannot shift soil that has bonded to the fibre. That is where a proper clean makes the difference. We treat muddy traffic lanes and pet stains individually before the main clean, and a deodoriser comes as standard to neutralise smells at the source rather than masking them. If a mark has changed the colour of the fibre and is unlikely to come out completely, we will tell you honestly before we start.

How we clean carpets in RH4

A hired machine or a quick spray and suck clean only gets so far. Our approach is the same on every job, whatever the size of the room:

First, preparation. We vacuum the whole area thoroughly, then apply a conditioning pre-spray that starts breaking down grime straight away. Spills and marks are spot treated one by one.

Then, agitation. The pre-spray is worked into the carpet with a brush so the cleaning agent actually reaches the soil. This is the step plenty of companies skip, and it is the one you can see in the finished result.

Next, extraction. We rinse with hot water extraction at 120°C using our Power-Flex Storm 800psi machine. It flushes out the loosened dirt and the cleaning solution together, and the heat kills dust mites and bacteria in the pile.

Finally, the finish. We groom the fibres so they dry evenly and look uniform, then run our turbo dryer fan if you need the room back quickly. Most carpets are dry within a few hours.

Our cleaning agents are free from harsh or caustic chemicals, so they are safe in homes with children and pets, and hot water extraction rinses them out rather than leaving a sticky residue that attracts more dirt.

Wool and natural fibre carpets

Not every carpet should be cleaned the same way. Wool and wool blends behave very differently from nylon, polypropylene or polyester, and the wrong product or too much water can leave a natural carpet dull, rough or distorted. We are Woolsafe approved, with John a Woolsafe Registered Inspector and Associate Member, so we know how to clean natural fibres safely and adjust the method to suit each carpet.

Once a carpet has been cleaned, we strongly recommend a soil protector or Scotchgard. It helps the fibres shed dirt and spills, so everyday marks are easier to deal with and you can go longer between cleans. It is well worth considering for hallways and stairs that take the brunt of muddy days.

Sofas, rugs, mattresses and Amtico on the same visit

Because Dorking is a little further out than some of our work, many customers make the most of the visit by booking several things together. We bring the same equipment for all of it, and the cleaning is always done in your home.

  • Sofas and armchairs: every cushion cleaned front and back, plus the whole base. See our upholstery cleaning in Dorking.
  • Rugs: from wool and Persian rugs to synthetic flatweaves, with low moisture cleaning for delicate pieces. More on our rug cleaning page.
  • Mattresses: steam extraction at 120°C to kill dust mites and lift stains, and most are ready to sleep on the same day. See mattress cleaning.
  • Amtico and LVT: a deep clean or a full strip and re-seal. See Amtico floor cleaning in Dorking.

Why book a professional clean

What a deep clean does for your carpets

Grit out of the pile

Removing the fine soil that wears fibres down in hallways and on stairs helps your carpets last longer.

Fewer allergens

Hot water extraction at 120°C kills dust mites and bacteria.

Pet smells tackled at the source

Pet stains are treated individually and a deodoriser is included, so odours are neutralised rather than covered up.

Colour and softness back

Lifting the dirt and grooming the pile brings back colour that has dulled, so the whole room looks fresher.

FAQs

Dorking carpet cleaning questions

How much does carpet cleaning cost in Dorking?

Any room is £45, including bedrooms, lounges and dining rooms, and stairs and landing are £45. A 2-bed house with stairs and landing is £170 and a 3-bed is £215. Rugs start from £50 depending on size. There is a minimum charge of £110 for any job, which covers bringing and setting up the equipment.

Do you cover the villages around Dorking?

Yes. As well as the town itself, we regularly travel to Westcott, Mickleham, Westhumble, Brockham, Betchworth, Holmwood and the villages nearby. Prices are the same, and the £110 minimum charge applies wherever you are.

Can you get mud out of a hallway or stair carpet?

In most cases, yes. We vacuum out the dry grit first, pre-treat the traffic lanes, brush the solution in and then rinse with hot water extraction at 120°C. Heavily worn areas can look better rather than brand new, and we will tell you what to expect before we start.

Is it safe to clean a wool carpet?

Yes, with the right method. We are Woolsafe approved, with a Woolsafe Registered Inspector, and we adjust the products and moisture to suit wool and other natural fibres.

How long will my carpets take to dry?

Usually a few hours, depending on the thickness of the pile, ventilation and how soiled the carpet was. We groom the fibres to help them dry evenly and can run a turbo dryer fan if you need the room back quickly.

Should I have my carpets protected after cleaning?

We recommend it, especially for hallways and stairs. A soil protector or Scotchgard helps the fibres repel dirt and spills, so marks are easier to deal with and you can go longer between cleans.

Can you clean a sofa while you are here?

Yes. Two-seater sofas are £110, three-seaters £130 and four-seaters £140, with every cushion cleaned front and back plus the base. Armchairs are £45. Adding a sofa to a carpet clean is a good way to make the most of the visit.
